AROUND

Our legacy in Sintra

The building that hosts Casa da Estefânea is from the early 1900s, during the peak of the Royal Court’s splendor in Sintra. It was built and first inhabited by a wealthy family involved in overseas trade with Portuguese colonies. It’s architecture was influenced by the Romanticism period’s designs, according to architect Raul Lino— a unique personality in the arts scene of Portugal.

Almost a century later, in the 1990s, it was restored into a guesthouse by architect José Mota, a Sintra resident. Its restoration maintained the essence and character of its original architecture.

In the Heart of Magical Sintra

Casa da Estefânea is located in a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994. It is 25 minutes from Lisbon Airport and the city center, by car or train.

It has a prime location, in the heart of the historic village of Sintra, and a 3-minute walk from the train station. It is surrounded by small streets with shops, cafes, restaurants; however, protected from the mass, noisy crowds of tourists that transit Sintra daily.

Estefânea is easily accessible with public transport (train, bus), as well as by car (parking area 2-minutes away). Mobility around Sintra and to major monuments is available by bus, tuk-tuk or on foot.

Estefânea is located opposite from the old Sintra Casino and the Tram Museum. The Medieval square and National Palace is a 15-minute walk away.
